Description
The estate is probably the most innovative and unexpected of this territory. The creator is Francesco Illy (from the coffee-making family) decided to fulfill his dream on this unspoiled land, which until 1998 was inhabited by a shepherd and his sheep. Francesco’s and his team vision is to avoid any non-natural molecule in his vineyards and estate (which includes farming animals and a beautiful vegetable garden). Podere Le Ripi started biodynamic farming in 2012 and obtained a Demeter certification. The vineyards are divided between East and West side of Montalcino, holding completely different soil characteristics. The winery is renowned for its Bosai vineyard: the densest one in the world. Vines are planted only 40 centimeters apart, resulting in a density of 62.500 plants per hectare.

VINOUS – 96 Points – Gorgeous aromas of dried violets, potpourri and lemon peel, evolving into porcini mushrooms and toasted oak. It’s full-bodied with depth and purity of fruit on the palate. Lots of plum, blueberry and citrus peel. Delicious chocolatey and firm tannins. Try after 2023.
