SETTIMOCIELO – Primovolo

Some wines tell the story of a place. Others tell something more personal.

For me, Primo Volo is one of those wines.

Settimo Cielo was born in Montalcino from an idea shared by Dario, Andrea, and Vincenzo, three of my closest friends. And when I say friends, I mean the real kind ,the ones I grew up with, the ones with whom I’ve shared an important part of my life and with whom my connection goes far beyond this project.

Their journey began in 2017 at Podere Scarnacuoia, on the western slopes of Montalcino. It all started with the land and the olive trees already growing on the property, which they restored and brought back to life to produce their own Extra VirginOlive Oil. Then came honey and, almost inevitably for three guys who grew up in Montalcino, wine.

Primo Volo is their very first wine. And I don’t think they could have chosen a better name.

It comes from just over half a hectare of Sangiovese, planted in 2021 and bush-trained on sandy-loam soils rich in pietraforte stone and clay. The first vintage, 2024, resulted in a production of just 1,000 bottles.

After approximately 9–10 months of aging in previously used French oak tonneaux, the wine retains all the freshness and distinctive character of Sangiovese. In the glass, you’ll find aromas of strawberry, rose, mint, helichrysum, sage and more traditional flawors  followed by a long, velvety, and elegant palate, with a slightly rustic edge that gives the wine personality—and that I particularly enjoy.

A wine that’s perfect for an aperitif, served slightly chilled, or enjoyed throughout the entire meal. Fresh, versatile, and effortlessly enjoyable.

Simple. Elegant. Authentic.

I wanted to feature Primo Volo in our Wine Club not only because I genuinely enjoy the wine, but because I know the people behind it. I know their connection to Montalcino, the work they’ve put into this project, and the passion with which they are building Settimo Cielo, one step at a time.

And perhaps that’s what makes sharing these bottles with you so special: the opportunity to taste the very first vintage of a project I’ve had the privilege of watching come to life—and one I’m excited to see grow in the years ahead.
