Description
Mastrojanni is one of the historic estates of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area in the southeastern part of Montalcino, a zone known for producing Brunello wines with depth, structure, and remarkable aging potential.
Founded in 1975 by lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni, the estate quickly established itself as a benchmark producer in this warmer sub-zone influenced by Monte Amiata, where altitude, ventilation, and galestro-rich soils help preserve freshness and aromatic complexity.
Today the winery combines respect for tradition with precise vineyard work and careful cellar practices, focusing on expressing Sangiovese in a pure and elegant style. Aging takes place primarily in large oak casks, preserving the identity of the fruit and the character of the territory.
The estate farms vineyards located between 180 and 400 meters above sea level, allowing for balanced ripening and consistent quality even in warmer vintages.
The Wines
Rosso di Montalcino DOC
The Rosso di Montalcino is the most approachable expression of the estate’s Sangiovese. Fresh, vibrant, and fruit-driven, it shows notes of cherry, red berries, and Mediterranean herbs, supported by lively acidity and fine tannins. While ready to drink young, it retains the structure typical of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area.
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
The Brunello represents the core identity of Mastrojanni. It is a structured and elegant wine, combining ripe dark fruit, spice, tobacco, and mineral notes. Long aging in large oak casks gives the wine balance, depth, and longevity, making it suitable for extended cellaring.
