Description

Baricci – Colombaio Montosoli (Montalcino)
Small, family-run estate located in the Montosoli cru, one of the most prestigious areas of Montalcino. Pure Sangiovese, traditional winemaking (large Slavonian oak), and a strong focus on terroir expression. Style is classic: elegant, mineral, balsamic, and vertically structured.

Nello Baricci – the founder
Historic figure in Montalcino and a true pioneer of the Montosoli cru. Nello Baricci was among the first to believe in the potential of this specific hillside, helping to define its identity within Brunello. Deeply traditional, he focused on pure Sangiovese and long aging in large oak, shaping a style based on elegance, structure, and terroir transparency.

Brunello di Montalcino 2021
A refined, tension-driven vintage. Baricci’s 2021 shows dark fruit, floral and balsamic notes, with a lean, mineral palate. Firm but fine tannins, more about finesse than power. Built for aging.

AWARDS

100 points/’#4 Top 100 Wines of 2025′ Kerin O’Keefe: “Truffle, violet, ripe wild berry and dark spice aromas mingle with a whiff of new leather on the outrageously gorgeous Baricci 2021 Brunello Montosoli. From one of the pioneering estates and always one of the best wines in the denomination, the 2021 is exceptional, delivering layers of flavors including succulent Morello cherry, licorice, blood orange, black raspberry and ground clove accompanied by a backbone of refined, tightly woven tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it lifted and balanced. Drink 2030–2041. Abv: 14.5%. (Nov 2025)”

98 points Wine Spectator : Wine Spectator place Baricci 2021 among the top wines of the appellation,A score that rewards precision, balance, and clear cru identity (Montosoli),Not a “muscular” Brunello, but one driven by energy, definition, and length,Aromatics: cherry, spice, blood orange, balsamic notes,Structure: dense yet very fine tannins.,Finish: long, savory, strongly terroir-driven

95 points Eric Guido (Vinous): “[$110 list] The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is darkly wrapped up in its youthful state. Swirling unlocks depths of dried black cherry, dusty rose, crushed stone, violet pastille and clove. It’s round and soothing on the palate, with perfumed red berry fruit, mineral tones and textures of pure silk. This displays remarkable balance through the raspberry-tinged finish, which is long and structured but still fresh. The 2021 is fantastic and harmonious throughout. Drink:2028-2046. (Nov 2025)”

95 points Michaela Morris (Decanter): “One of the founding members of the consorzio, Baricci is now in the capable hands of the third generation – brothers Federico and Francesco Buffi. The Brunello has been made since 1971, always and only from the family’s vineyards on the hill of Montosoli. The fresh nose builds gradually with accents of candied lilac, mint, rooibos tea and punctuating, brambly berries. Judiciously weighted with glossy fruit, this expands smoothly with plentiful tannins that are the texture of fine sand. Nutmeg and liquorice perfume the palate. The acidity is cool and refreshing, and a pleasantly bitter finish lingers with pine and walnut. Already likable but not quite ready. Drinking window 2028-2040 (Nov 2025)”
